Arthur gripped his tie that was around his neck, loosening it and looking in the mirror by his door. He swore he saw you beside him in the mirror.
Why did this have to happen? Why did that monster have to take you? You were his. His only.
You were beautiful. Your hair, face and body were to die for. Arthur didn't understand how Alfred or Gilbert hadn't hit on you before. You were amazing. And that beauty could only belong to someone like him.
What stand did this man have against Arthur? He knew nothing about you. In truth, neither did Arthur but not that he cared. He knew you longer than that man.
He gritted his teeth and snarled at the mirror. He would show that man.
You found yourself in your room after dinner, crying again. You had a pounding headache from crying so much. You walked next door and opened it up. It was yet another sitting room but this one had a balcony. You had discovered this room while cleaning this morning and you found that your need for fresh air right now was overwhelming.
You opened the doors to the balcony and leaning against the railing, taking a deep breath.
"___________!" You heard someone yell. You looked down and gave a small gasp as Arthur waved from the garden you were looking over.
"Arthur!" You breathed.
Arthur started to climb some moonflowers that were growing on the balcony. The sturdy flowers that had grown for years served as a good ladder for Arthur. Some slipped off and fell to the ground below but Arthur didn't care. He would do anything to see you again. To see you and those beautiful eyes…those eyes that complemented his own. He sat on the railing and you cried into his chest.
"It's alright love." Arthur whispered. "I'm here now."
Luciano rubbed his sore head. The phone hadn't stopped ringing ever since he made that deal to keep you a little longer. He just needed…a little time. Just three more short days with you. Hopefully, he would regain his courage to really tell you how he felt by the time three days passed. If not, you deserved to leave. You didn't need a coward in your life. A murderous, evil coward, at that.
He threw a quick "I'll be in the garden" to Chiku and Luzifer before walking outside. As he walked along the familiar paths, watching the moonflowers getting ready to bloom for the evening.
As he walked, he felt a crunch under his foot. He looked down to see a bunch of the little flowers under his heel. He picked up the now dead flowers and looked around for where they came from. He couldn't find any bare patches…
That's when he heard your voice. It was like a crystal bell in the silence. He looked up and promptly backed up against the wall of his house so you wouldn't see him.
"It's awful here! I want nothing more than just to go home…why can't the FBI work something else out, even if they don't have their part of the deal filled out?" You sobbed.
"I know love, I know." Someone else said.
Who the hell was that?! Luciano bit his lip to prevent himself from yelling out. Sneaking back inside so no one saw him, he ran up to the room with the balcony and saw the two doors to the outside were open. He snuck behind a curtain that was meant to be put over the two glass doors when no one was outside and listened.
"Why don't you run away…with me? Right now?" The other voice said.
"I would but I can't." You sobbed. "Not unless I want to be killed!"
"How do you know he would kill you?" The voice asked.
"Ha! You don't know what I've seen! He's a monster! A killer! I hate him!"
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Luciano swallowed the lump in his throat.
"He'd probably hurt me first. Torture me. Let his little guard dog friends at me too! He'd break every bone in my body and then kill me in the worst way possible." You bitterly said. "I just want to see Lizzie again…"
Luciano watched you through the glass. The man with you was about your age, which means he was about Luciano's age.
Luciano watched this man with careful eyes. He didn't like him. Not one bit. While you looked up at this man with complete devotion and…love…this man did nothing but look at your body. If this boy could ask you to turn around for him, Luciano was sure it wasn't below this man to do so.
"Love, I need to go." This man said. He brushed his hand against your soft skin.
"I…I love you, Arthur." You whispered.
"I love you too." Arthur said. He leaned in and pressed his lips against yours.
…You call that a kiss?! Ugh! Luciano wrinkled his nose and clenched his jaw. Even he knew that was a bad kiss. It must have been your first kiss because the way you threw your arms around that man and your knees went weak was not the reaction you would have it you compared that blonde man's kiss to any other creature on the planet. Arthur climbed down the flowers again. So that's what was destroying his flowers…
Luciano gulped and held his breath as you watched Arthur disappear.
Luciano took that time to walk towards the door. He realized that he was still holding the dead flowers in his hand. He dropped the flowers on the floor, dead and crushed, just like you left Luciano's heart.
As you walked out of the room, still dazed from that amazing kiss from Arthur, you noticed a bundle of flowers on the ground. You picked up the clump of moonflowers. Huh…wonder where those came from…
"Sir." Chiku said. "There are some people who want to see you."
"Who?" Luciano sighed.
"The girl's family." Chiku said.
Luciano stood up. "I'll be back." He growled, walking towards the door.
He opened the door to see your mother and father on the verge of tears, holding the hand of little Lizzie.
"Please sir, I know the FBI said they could get their deal together…but please let us have our daughter!" Your mother said is a quiet voice.
"Can't do. Have a good day." Luciano said.
"Wait!" Your father yelled out.
Luciano opened the door again.
"Look, Mr. Vargas, we don't have any money. We can't give you anything that you would want as a trade but can we at least see her?" Your father asked.
"I would. I would let you see her all day long but if I do that, I'd be soft to the FBI and a target to kill." Lies, lies, lies and more lies but would Luciano ever give away the real reason why he didn't want them in his house? What if you told them about Chiku? Luciano did his best to heal that sore spot about your stay with him but there was no way you would ever let go of those images of the dead bodies or the fight with the boys. That's enough right there for the FBI to shoot Luciano. Nope. Could not do.
As Luciano explained to your parents what your fate was, he felt a tug on his leg. He looked down. Lizzie was clutching a piece of paper in her small hand and pulling on Luciano's pant leg.
"Can you give this to ___________?" Lizzie asked.
Luciano knelt down to Lizzie's level and took the paper. It was a…cat? Yeah, a cat costume. For you. It was a layout of a cat costume that your sister designed for you.
Luciano stood up and gently took your sister's hand. "You can give it to her yourself." He said.
Your mother and father began to complain. Luciano held up a hand. "I will take care of her. She will not be hurt. Feel free to make yourself comfortable in my parlor while they visit."
Your mom began to cry tears of joy. Luciano rolled his eyes. Your father grabbed Luciano's arm as he walked inside.
"Thank you. Elizabeth has been very lonely for this week. You don't know how much this means to her-" Luciano tore his arm away from your father.
"I don't need your groveling or pity." Luciano growled. "Give the sisters some time and then leave this place."
Luciano took your little sister up to your room, where you were spending your free time. "_____________? Someone is here to see you."
Lizzie ran behind Luciano's legs to hide playfully from you. You opened up the door and frowned when you saw no one new. Luciano gave a small cough and nodded his head to his legs. You saw a bit of blonde hair and two small hands clutching the cloth of Luciano's pants. You smiled and pulled your sister out from behind Luciano, picking her up by her waist. You sister squealed with delight and hugged you.
Her laugh. Her small, warm arms. Her small form that you hugged to your chest. It was too much. You didn't even say hi to her. You just broke down into tears as you held your little sister. That little fireball of energy and innocence that you loved so much. The little girl who read you stories. The little girl who made up random songs at random points. The little girl who wanted to be a princess.
"Don't cry, ____________!" Lizzie giggled. "Mommy and Daddy are here too!"
"Where?" You gasped.
Luciano held out an arm to stop you from charging down the stairs. "You can't see them. Your sister only."
Your lip trembled and you nodded slowly, taking your sister into your room and setting her down on your bed. Luciano sighed and walked away so you two had your time.
As your family left the house, Luciano closed the front door and sighed. He looked up to find you at the top of the stairs.
"Happy now?" Luciano growled.
You nodded, a rare smile crossing your face.
Luciano swore his heart skipped a beat. Did you just smile? At him? God, what a beautiful smile. Luciano gave a slow nod. You walked down the stairs.
"Since I did something for you today, would you mind doing something for me and cook some actual food-" Luciano paused when you went up to him and gave him a stiff hug. God forbid you felt his heart pounding in his chest.
"This is not because I trust you." You said as you broke away from the brief hug. "It's because you let me see my sister."
"Not like I care." Luciano said. "What was that thing your sister gave you?"
"A picture." You said. "She drew it for my high school ball."
"Ball?" Luciano raised an eyebrow. You both started walking towards the kitchen.
"Every Halloween, my high school has a costume ball." You said. "My sister gave me the design for a costume." You gave a soft laugh. "I had to tell her that I wouldn't be at the ball. Not that it mattered to her. She still wanted to give me the picture."
"I see." Luciano said. "I have to go. Cook something good."
"Yes sir!" You said.
"Ugh, stop that. My name is not sir. Only call me that when I look pissed. Call me Luciano." He rolled his eyes and walked to his office again. Time to call someone…
He picked up his phone and dialed an almost forgotten number.
"Hello~?" A sing-song voice said.
"Ciao." Luciano simply said.
Luciano pulled the phone away from his ear.
"Shut it, blondie!" Luciano snapped.
"Aw, is my dearest little brother cranky today?" The voice pouted.
"One: we're not brothers. Two: I'm always angry. Three: I need something from you." Luciano said.
"What do you need?" The other voice said. "You know I'm busy~!"
"Call it a favor from Luciano Vargas." Luciano said.
"Ooh, a favor from the world's most dangerous man. I think I can get used to that~! What do you need?"
Luciano paused before answering. "I need a costume made."
